Home to Troop 149, Troop 5149 and Pack 149.
An important part of Outreach is supporting programs in the community. For over 65 years, our congregation has been honored to be the home of BSA Troop 149, BSA Troop 5149 (Girls), and Cub Scout Pack 149. These outstanding organizations do far more than just use our church space, but are also true partners with us in service.
In May 1959, Boy Scout Troop 149 was chartered to Friendship Church. There were only nine scouts in that first troop when it was chartered under Scoutmaster Starr Lee. Troop 149 has met continuously since then, with ups and downs of activity level, size, and adult leadership.
Paul Matthews accepted the position of Scoutmaster in August of 1994. Since then, the troop has grown to include many youth and adults, and is now one of the largest and most active troops in the Cherokee District, our 9-county area. Scouts help out in various capacities ranging from troop committee positions, assistant Scoutmasters, merit badge counselors and event coordinators. They provide leadership at the Cherokee District and Northeast Georgia Council level through our adult volunteers. Beyond the troop level, our Scouts also serve as summer camp staff and leaders of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s honor society.
In 2025, Troop 149 expanded to include an All-girls Troop which is Troop 5149.
From energetic monthly meetings to the multiple camping trips a year and the annual winter trip, the Pack offers many opportunities to grow and learn in a fun, nurturing environment.
